A Rochester man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a child pornography case involving hidden cameras in a church bathroom.
Stephen Nicot, 61, of Rochester, was sentenced to 144 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. for his conviction on a receipt of child pornography charge.
Nicot was found to have hidden a camera in the bathroom of a church located in the Western District of New York between 2012 and 2014. He positioned the camera to capture video and images of naked individuals using the shower in the church bathroom, with some of the victims being minors under the age of 18.
The discovery of the hidden camera was made after law enforcement executed a warrant at Nicot’s residence on July 21, 2022, and recovered a memory card and USB drive containing videos and images of at least five minor victims. Two cell phones were also seized, which contained naked images of a minor victim recorded by a camera hidden in a bathroom of Nicot’s residence.
The investigation was led by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Todd Baxter, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kyle Rossi and Meghan K. McGuire handled the case, stating that Nicot’s actions were a serious breach of trust and a horrific exploitation of vulnerable children. The sentencing is a significant step towards holding perpetrators accountable for such heinous crimes.
