Rochester Man Sentenced for Enticement of Minor
A Rochester man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for enticing a minor using a means and facility of interstate commerce.
Matthew DiFlorio, 28, was convicted of the crime and sentenced by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford. The sentence also includes 20 years of supervised release.
The investigation into DiFlorio’s activities began in June 2015, when the mother of a 13-year-old minor advised the Rochester Police that her child had been communicating with two men. One of the men was later identified as DiFlorio, who was working as a Lifetouch school photographer at the time.
According to the minor, DiFlorio had been communicating with them through the application ‘Kik’ and had arranged to meet them in February 2015. After taking over the minor’s phone, law enforcement officers received a text message from DiFlorio on June 22, 2015.
An officer assumed the minor’s identity and engaged in texts with DiFlorio, who arranged a meeting for June 23, 2015 at a local fast food restaurant. DiFlorio was confronted by law enforcement officers and admitted to having had sex with the minor and engaging in communications with them through text messages.
The case was the result of an investigation by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Adam S. Cohen. The task force includes members of the FBI, the Rochester Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee handled the case, stating that DiFlorio’s actions were a serious offense that required severe punishment. ‘This sentence serves as a reminder that the exploitation of minors will not be tolerated and those who engage in such behavior will be held accountable,’ Lee said.
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford on [Date]. DiFlorio will serve 10 years in prison followed by 20 years of supervised release.
