Joshua Javier Menjivar, Unlawful Machinegun Conversion, Texas 2024

Rockwall native Joshua Javier Menjivar, 20, is in hot water after being charged with unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm by U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Leigha Simonton.

The criminal complaint against Menjivar alleges that he imported machinegun conversion devices from China and fitted at least one to create an untraceable ghost gun. These switches can fire a惊人的amount of ammunition in seconds, making them highly dangerous weapons, according to Attorney Simonton.

On May 16, Customs & Border Protection agents intercepted a package destined for Menjivar’s residence containing four such conversion devices. An investigation revealed that over the span of a year, approximately 35 suspicious packages were delivered to his address, all appearing as everyday items like household tools and protective gloves.

ATF agents discovered a non-value gold metal commemorative bitcoin in Menjivar’s trash, often used to conceal switches. A subsequent search warrant at his residence uncovered a ghost gun with a switch, additional switches, ammunition, and various firearm accessories. Menjivar is alleged to have claimed knowledge of the switches’ operation.

U.S. Attorneys Leigha Simonton, Alamdar Hamdani, Damien Diggs, and Jaime Esparza are leading Operation Texas Kill Switch, a statewide initiative targeting machinegun conversion devices. ATF Dallas Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Boshek praised the dedication of law enforcement partners involved, including CBP.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, Dallas Police Department, Rockwall County Sheriff’s Department, and U.S. Customs & Border Patrol collaborated on this investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Withers prosecuting the case.
