Grand Marais Man Sentenced In Child Pornography Case
ROGER HARRISON WHITE, 70, of Grand Marais, Michigan, has been brought to justice for his heinous crimes. White was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for possession of child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Miles, Jr. today.
The investigation into White’s activities began in 2008, when it was discovered that he had a brief subscription to a child pornography website. This led to a search of White’s computer and compact disks, which revealed that he had downloaded and stored thousands of images, as well as videos, of child pornography via the internet over a period of several years.
White had pled guilty to the charge last October, and his sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell. In addition to the prison term, White will serve five years of supervised release following his release from prison, and will be required to pay a $300 fine and a $100 special assessment. White will also be required to register as a sexual offender.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, county prosecutor’s offices, Internet Crimes Against Children task force (ICAC), federal, state, and local law enforcement are working closely together to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children.
The partners in Project Safe Childhood work to educate local communities about the dangers of online child exploitation, and to teach children how to protect themselves. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit the following web site: www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
Homeland Security Investigations investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul D. Lochner prosecuting the case.
White’s crimes are a stark reminder of the dangers of online child exploitation, and the importance of working together to protect our children. The people of Grand Marais can rest a little easier knowing that White is behind bars, and that justice has been served.
