Florida Man Sentenced to 2 Years and 3 Months in Prison for Assaulting U.S. Marine MP
Alexandria, VA – In a shocking turn of events, Roger Pierre Laberge, a 69-year-old Florida man, has been sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison for assaulting a U.S. Marine MP with his truck.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on May 15, 2024, at Gate 1 of Marine Corps Base Quantico. Laberge approached the checkpoint driving a pickup truck with a tow-trailer, claiming he did not have a driver’s license or vehicle registration.
Two U.S. Marine Corps Police Officers (MPs) determined that Laberge did not have authorization to enter the base and directed him to drive his truck into a nearby turnaround zone. One of the MPs moved a barrier, allowing Laberge to drive into the designated turnaround zone, then repositioned it to secure the enclosure.
As the MP indicated that he was about to move the traffic barrier for Laberge and stepped in front of Laberge’s vehicle, Laberge accelerated the truck forward. The MP extended his arm and hand as a signal to stop and loudly called for Laberge to stop, but Laberge ignored the commands and continued to accelerate his vehicle, striking the MP with his truck.
Laberge’s history of previous convictions includes aggravated fleeing to elude and resisting an officer with violence in 1996, fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer in 2016, and fleeing with disregard of safety to persons or property and driving while suspended for a third time or more in 2024.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service Washington D.C. Field Office investigated this case, with Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jake Drucker and Richard Krupczak, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristin S. Starr, prosecuting the case.
Laberge’s sentence of 2 years and 3 months in prison is a harsh reminder of the consequences of assaulting law enforcement officers. As the investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia will vigorously pursue justice for those who put the lives of others at risk.
