Defendants Sentenced in Heroin Distribution Conspiracy

HOUMA, LA – In a major crackdown on the city’s heroin trade, two men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a wide-ranging conspiracy.

Roland ‘Troy’ Chambers, 45, and Gregory Jackson, 40, both of Houma, Louisiana, were sentenced to 71 months and 60 months incarceration, respectively, for their involvement in the heroin distribution ring.

According to court documents, Chambers and Jackson worked together to sell heroin in the Houma area from July 1, 2012, through May 31, 2013. During this time, they made several sales of heroin to confidential sources from the DEA, with Jackson instructing others on how to ‘bag up’ heroin for resale.

Chambers served as a supplier, making several trips to New Orleans to obtain more heroin. He was arrested by DEA agents and Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies in possession of over 100 grams of heroin after returning from one of these trips.

The case was investigated by the DEA New Orleans Division Office and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Payne prosecuted the case.

Chambers pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, one count of possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, and three counts of distribution of heroin. Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and five counts of distribution of heroin.

Both men were sentenced to four years of supervised release to be served after their incarceration.

The sentences bring to a close a long and complex investigation into the heroin trade in Houma. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
