A 66-year-old Lake City man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for possessing child pornography, according to court documents.
Ronald Charles Waters, 66, was sentenced by United States District Judge Marcia Morales Howard on November 20, 2013 for knowingly possessing images and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Waters was arrested on November 20, 2013 and has been in custody since. He was found to have possessed an external media storage device containing at least two videos and at least 16 images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Waters admitted to knowingly possessing the videos and images, according to court documents. The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and the Lake City Police Department.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown. It is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. Waters will also serve a seven-year term of supervision and register as a sex offender following his release.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations agents and law enforcement officers executed a federal search warrant at Waters’ residence and seized the external media storage device containing the child pornography.
