Hampden Man Sentenced for Robbing Bangor Credit Union
A brazen daytime robbery at the Down East Credit Union in Bangor, Maine, ended with a 61-year-old Hampden man behind bars. Ronald Tilley, 61, was sentenced to 52 months in prison and three years of supervised release for robbing the credit union on March 27, 2019.
Tilley, wearing a dark mask, hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, and dark gloves, entered the back door of the credit union and demanded money from the tellers, claiming to have a gun and threatening to shoot if they didn’t comply. He made off with more than $8,700.
A search warrant executed at Tilley’s residence in Hampden uncovered cash stolen from the credit union. He was subsequently apprehended by law enforcement in Connecticut and confessed to the robbery.
The Bangor Police Department, the Hampden Police Department, and the FBI investigated the case, bringing an end to Tilley’s brazen crime spree.
Tilley pleaded guilty on June 24, 2019, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker. He was also ordered to pay $8,726 in restitution.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community cooperation in bringing perpetrators to justice.
