Gun Crime Lands Burlington Man 30 Months in the Slammer
Burlington, Vermont – In a move aimed at keeping the community safer, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont announced that Roy-Anthony Erno, 36, of Burlington, Vermont, was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment for violating federal gun laws.
According to court records, on May 3, 2022, South Burlington Police Department officers responded to a hotel following a report of an individual refusing to leave a room. Upon encountering Erno, he agreed to leave and admitted to investigators that he possessed a firearm in his backpack. Erno consented to a search of the bag, and officers located a 9mm Smith & Wesson firearm.
Erno was subsequently charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a serious offense that puts our communities at risk. The case highlights the importance of enforcing gun control laws and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest commended the collaborative investigatory efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the South Burlington Police Department, emphasizing the need for effective law enforcement strategies to combat gun violence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan Ophardt and Zachary Stendig, with Erno represented by Natasha Sen, Esq. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities.
