Corning Sex Offender Gets 35 Years for Child Porn Charges

A Corning, New York sex offender has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for producing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced.

Ryan M. Newman, 34, was convicted of production of child pornography and received a 420-month sentence, along with 15 years supervised release from U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle P. Rossi, Newman was previously convicted of child pornography crimes by New York State in 2012, receiving a local jail term and 10 years’ probation. He was also required to register as a Level 3 Sex Offender, a designation given to individuals considered to be at high risk of re-offending and a threat to public safety.

The case against Newman began in January 2021, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a report from Snapchat about a user uploading a video of child pornography. The tip was sent to the New York State Police, who executed a search warrant on Newman’s person and residence in 2022. However, it was not until April 2024 that the FBI Corning received a tip that pornography involving a child in the Corning area was distributed to an undercover agent in Illinois. A subsequent investigation determined that Newman sexually abused the child and produced the child pornography.

Newman was taken into custody by the FBI and Corning Police. The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Corning Office, under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Mark Grimm, and the Corning Police Department, under the direction of Chief Kenzie Spaulding.

The case highlights the ongoing threat posed by sex offenders and the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies. As the investigation and sentencing demonstrate, no individual is above the law, and those who commit such heinous crimes will be held accountable.

The sentence imposed on Newman is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the investigators and prosecutors involved in the case. It is a reminder that those who prey on the most vulnerable members of our society will be brought to justice and held accountable for their crimes.
