Depew Man Pleads Guilty To Child Pornography Charge

BUFFALO, N.Y.-In a shocking turn of events, Mark Newman, 56, of Depew, NY, has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Newman’s guilty plea comes after a lengthy investigation by Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, who is handling the case, a search warrant was executed at Newman’s residence on September 26, 2012. Items seized from Newman’s residence that contained child pornography included a Toshiba laptop computer. A forensic analysis uncovered approximately 300 videos of child pornography stored on the computer. Some of the images depicted prepubescent minors or minors less than 12 years of age, as well as images of violence.

As part of the plea agreement, Newman admitted that he has engaged in a pattern of sexual abuse of a minor. This disturbing revelation raises serious concerns about the safety and well-being of the victim. The investigation and subsequent guilty plea are a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies in protecting our children.

The guilty plea is a significant development in the case, and it is a reminder that those who engage in such heinous crimes will be held accountable. Newman is scheduled to be sentenced on August 13, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford. The court will determine the severity of the sentence based on the evidence presented.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. said, “The protection of children from exploitation and abuse is a top priority for our office. We will continue to work tirelessly to investigate and prosecute those who engage in such despicable crimes.”

The case is a stark reminder of the importance of vigilant community members who report suspicious activity to the authorities. It is only through collaboration between law enforcement and the community that we can ensure the safety and well-being of our children.
