Saadiq Logan, Gun Charges, Washington District of Columbia 2022

WASHINGTON – A 22-year-old man from Washington DC has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison for gun charges, announced U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves.

Saadiq Logan, 22, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced on today to 117 months in prison and five years of supervised release for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person prohibited, and using, carrying, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.

According to court documents, on June 22, 2022, members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crime Impact Team were patrolling in Southeast Washington when they observed Logan with a group of individuals standing around a Mercedes parked on the road. Logan was holding a backpack, which he dropped after running and tripping.

Inside the backpack, law enforcement recovered two firearms with multiple magazines, a Glock 21 .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol with a machine gun conversion device, and a loaded 7.62 caliber Micro-Draco semi-automatic pistol with one round in the chamber and 21 additional rounds in an unknown capacity magazine.

Logan also carried a pill bottle containing 59 tablets determined to contain fentanyl. On Aug. 5, 2022, while detained in the D.C. jail pending resolution of the current case, Logan assaulted an inmate and intentionally kicked the victim in the head multiple times during a fight.

Logan pleaded guilty to the charges on Dec. 15, 2022, in the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia. He is awaiting sentencing on a simple assault charge in D.C. Superior Court after pleading guilty on June 20, 2023.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI’s Washington Field Office. The case was prosecuted by former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Allison McGuire and Assistant U.S. Attorney George Eliopoulos, with assistance from Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jordan Leiter, all members of the Violence Reduction and Trafficking Offenses Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Logan’s sentence will be served in the federal prison system. The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to holding accountable those who engage in violent and dangerous behavior.
