Sabino Osvaldo Gomez-Perez, Fentanyl Trafficking, Utah 2025
By: [Your Name], Crime Journalist for Grimy Times
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A massive fentanyl trafficking operation has been brought to its knees, thanks to the tireless efforts of law enforcement. Sabino Osvaldo Gomez-Perez, a 36-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to 57 months’ imprisonment by a U.S. District Court Judge for his role in trafficking the deadly substance.
According to court documents and statements made at Gomez-Perez’s change of plea and sentencing hearings, the defendant knowingly possessed 5,857 grams of fentanyl, equivalent to approximately 58,000 fentanyl pills, on October 9, 2024. This staggering amount of fentanyl is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of this deadly substance on our communities.
Gomez-Perez pleaded guilty on May 29, 2025 to possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. The FBI Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force (WMDTF) led the investigation, which was conducted under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah prosecuted the case, with Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti making the announcement. Upon his release from prison, Gomez-Perez will be remanded to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation proceedings.
The case against Gomez-Perez serves as a stark reminder of the importance of continued efforts to combat the flow of deadly substances into our communities. Law enforcement agencies and prosecutors must remain vigilant in their pursuit of those who would seek to profit from the suffering of others.
Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this and other cases as more information becomes available. In the meantime, we urge our readers to remain aware of the dangers posed by fentanyl and other deadly substances.
