Today’s grim headlines from Sacramento bring the chilling tale of Jordan Anthony Hughes, a 25-year-old man sentenced to a staggering 30 years in federal prison for producing child sexual abuse material. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Daniel J. Calabretta, who also imposed a lifetime term of supervised release on Hughes.
According to court documents, Hughes’ heinous activities began as early as 2017 when he exploited a child under the age of 12 for sexually explicit purposes within Sacramento. The young victim was subjected to hands-on violations and photographed during these abusive acts. The exploitation continued over several years, with evidence indicating that Hughes not only committed these crimes but also distributed images of child sexual abuse under the guise of assistance or education.
Hughes’ reach extended beyond his local abusers as he used the internet to lure other underage victims into sending him explicit images and videos. He deceived them by posing as an underage male himself. The magnitude of Hughes’ offenses became clear at his arrest, when authorities discovered a trove of child sexual abuse materials in his possession.
The Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force, which includes the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and Homeland Security Investigations, conducted the investigation that led to Hughes’ conviction. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shea J. Kenny was responsible for prosecuting the case.
