Connor McAuliffe, Receipt of Child Pornography, Massachusetts 2024

BOSTON – The grimy streets of Salem were hit with a shock wave as emergency medical technician (EMT) Connor McAuliffe, 34, was today arrested and charged with one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. The case has sent ripples through the community as McAuliffe, an employee of an emergency services company, is accused of trading in the darkest corners of the internet.

According to federal documents, McAuliffe was pinpointed by the South African Police Service (SAPS) during a probe into a massive encrypted messaging group. The group, with over 1,000 members from across the globe, was alleged to be dedicated to trading child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Further investigation reportedly found McAuliffe involved in at least 14 other chat groups on the same platform.

During a search of his residence this March, authorities seized McAuliffe’s cellphone. A forensic examination revealed his involvement in approximately 100 chats across multiple messaging apps, with chilling titles like “Boys Planet” and “Chicos ninos y adolescentes cp.” The review of media files on the device uncovered roughly 1,500 images and 50 videos depicting child sexual abuse, many featuring boys aged nine to 11.

Mcauliffe holds an active paramedic certification with the Massachusetts Office of Health & Human Services. If convicted, the severity of his punishment could be staggering – the receipt of child pornography charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years in prison, along with fines reaching $250,000.

The grim details of this case have led to widespread concern. The public is encouraged to reach out with any information or questions to 617-748-3274 or USAMA.VictimAssistance@usdoj.gov. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England, announced the charges today. The Salem Police Department played a pivotal role in this investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Maynard of the Major Crimes Unit leading the prosecution.
