A San Antonio man hid over $1 million in income from the IRS for two years, earning him a 37-month stint in federal prison. Juan R. Gonzalez, 52, owned Gonzalez Construction, a residential construction business.
Gonzalez used cash, nominee names, and other schemes to conceal his income, earning him $1,030,079.45 in taxable income from 2020 to 2021. He didn’t file tax returns, and his tax debt ballooned to $370,752.64.
Gonzalez had a prior conviction for tax evasion in 2011 and was already a repeat offender. He pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion in January 2026 and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez.
U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons called out Gonzalez, saying, ‘He’s returning to federal prison having not learned after his first conviction 15 years ago, that the U.S. government does not tolerate those who try to undermine our tax laws.’
