Eric Jin, Sexually Exploiting a Minor, California 2024

San Diego, CA – Eric Jin, a 31-year-old San Diego man, was sentenced today to more than 21 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting a 14-year-old girl. The judge presiding over the case, U.S. District Judge Jinsook Ohta, called Jin’s actions ‘truly hurtful and evil’.

Jin had pleaded guilty in October 2024 to directing the young victim to produce child sex abuse material, ordering her to take sexually graphic pictures of herself without clothing, and carving his name into her skin. He also admitted possessing and sending explicit images of other minors to the girl via cell phone.

U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon emphasized that the office is committed to achieving justice for children and holding predators accountable. Special Agent in Charge Mark Dargis of the FBI San Diego Field Office highlighted the importance of ongoing conversations about safe online behavior and immediate reporting of any inappropriate contact.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrew Sherwood and Katie Grammenidis prosecuted the case. Jin faces a maximum penalty of thirty years in prison and a $500,000 fine under Title 18, U.S.C., Section 2251(a) and (e).
