SALT LAKE CITY – Kevin Enrique Sanchez-Carrillo, 25, a Mexican national living in Draper, Utah, has been sentenced to 60 months behind bars for smuggling methamphetamine and heroin. Senior U.S. District Judge Dale A. Kimball also ordered his deportation following his release.
The sentencing followed an FBI sting where an informant bought drugs from Sanchez-Carrillo. His apartment and vehicle were searched on April 3, 2025, yielding a massive stash of fentanyl, heroin, meth, cocaine, and a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun. Sanchez-Carrillo admitted to possession with intent to distribute, knowing he was unauthorized to possess the firearm.
Sanchez-Carrillo entered the U.S. in December 2023 and failed to register as required by law. The court ordered him to forfeit $7,750 in cash and the weapon.
“Pumping poison into our communities won’t be tolerated,” Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti said. “Sanchez-Carrillo’s sentence sends a message that drug trafficking and illegal firearms will face serious consequences.” FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the FBI’s commitment to public safety.
Lester R. Hayes, Jr., of the Las Vegas DEA, praised the teamwork that led to Sanchez-Carrillo’s conviction, emphasizing the commitment to justice. The case was part of Operation Take Back America, a DOJ initiative targeting illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
