Santa Fe Man Jailed for Bungled Bank Heist
A bungled bank robbery attempt in 2015 has landed a Santa Fe man behind bars. Anthony Quintana, 31, was sentenced to 43 months in prison for attempting to rob the Wells Fargo Bank branch located at 545 West Cordova Rd. in Santa Fe, in April 2015.
According to court documents, Quintana approached a bank teller on April 7, 2015, and demanded a withdrawal. He claimed to have a gun and asked the teller to hand over all of the $100 bills in her drawer. However, the teller, while searching for keys, managed to stall Quintana long enough for him to leave the bank without obtaining any money.
Quintana was arrested on May 2, 2015, on a criminal complaint charging him with attempted bank robbery. He was subsequently indicted on an attempted bank robbery charge on May 28, 2015. On Nov. 19, 2015, Quintana pled guilty to the indictment and admitted to attempting to rob the Wells Fargo Bank branch in Santa Fe.
The case was investigated by the Albuquerque office of the FBI and the Santa Fe Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Presiliano Torrez prosecuted the case.
Quintana will be on supervised release for three years after completing his prison sentence. The attempted bank heist has left many wondering what could have been if Quintana had been successful in his nefarious plans.
As Quintana begins his prison sentence, the community is left to ponder the consequences of his actions. The sentence handed down to Quintana serves as a reminder that attempting to rob a bank comes with severe consequences.
The Wells Fargo Bank branch at 545 West Cordova Rd. in Santa Fe has been the scene of a high-profile crime, but thanks to the swift action of law enforcement, the bank and its customers were spared a traumatic experience.
