Sarasota Meth Kingpin Gets 15 Years

TAMPA, FLORIDA – Alfred Clayton Rosier, Jr., 30, of Sarasota, is headed to federal prison for 15 years after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday handed down the sentence today, closing a case that exposed a significant drug operation in the Sarasota area.

The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Sarasota Police Department (SPD), and Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), began in mid-2021. Law enforcement zeroed in on Rosier after a suspicious package at a FedEx facility in Manatee County triggered an alert. A FedEx employee reported observing black vacuum-sealed bags – a common indicator of narcotics shipments – inside the box. A canine unit confirmed the presence of drugs, and a search warrant was quickly obtained.

Inside the package, agents discovered a chilling haul: sixteen pounds of methamphetamine, split into two eight-pound packages. A controlled delivery was orchestrated, and on September 22, 2022, the package arrived at a residence on McCloud Circle in Sarasota. Surveillance teams watched as Rosier, outside the home next to a white van, retrieved a large box from the van. As the Sarasota County SWAT team moved in, Rosier attempted to flee, tossing the box back into the van and jumping into a blue sedan. He was apprehended still partially seated on a label from the delivered package.

The search didn’t stop there. A small backpack found in the sedan contained a loaded Draco pistol with a 30-round magazine, prescription medication belonging to Rosier, cellphone records, and another FedEx shipping label – this one destined for California. A thorough search of the van revealed an additional 22 pounds of marijuana and 647 grams of methamphetamine, solidifying the scope of Rosier’s criminal enterprise. The combined weight of the drugs seized exceeds 38 pounds.

“This sentence sends a clear message: those who flood our communities with dangerous drugs and use firearms to facilitate their crimes will face severe consequences,” stated a source close to the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shauna S. Hale and was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) operation, a multi-agency initiative designed to dismantle high-level criminal organizations. OCDETF focuses on intelligence-driven, prosecutor-led investigations targeting the most significant threats to national security.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests. Rosier’s 15-year sentence serves as a stark reminder of the federal government’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and gun violence in Florida and beyond.
