Saul Cruz-Argueta,Illegal Reentry, Alabama 2025

A Honduran national, Saul Cruz-Argueta, 39, was caught and sentenced in Alabama for reentering the United States after being deported twice. The defendant was encountered by agents from the United States Homeland Security Investigations and Enforcement Removal Operations during labor site inspections in Mobile, Alabama.

According to court documents, Cruz-Argueta had previously been removed from the United States in 2016 and 2018. He also has two prior convictions for Illegal Reentry, as well as convictions for Theft of Property and Possession of Marijuana.

At sentencing, Chief Judge Beaverstock imposed a time-served sentence and a 1-year term of supervised release upon his future release. Cruz-Argueta had been in custody since his arrest on March 7, 2025. Upon his release from prison, Cruz-Argueta is to be referred to immigration officials for deportation proceedings.

The defendant was ordered to pay $100 in special assessments. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, Sean P. Costello, made the announcement.

The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, ATF, DEA, and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jimmy L. Thomas prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
