Scott Breaux, Bank Embezzlement, LA 2016-2017

Scott Breaux, 39, of Marrero, Louisiana, stole $35,000 from ASI Federal Credit Union while serving as Branch Manager, federal prosecutors confirm. Breaux entered a guilty plea yesterday in U.S. District Court, admitting to a calculated theft spree that spanned nearly a year.

From November 2016 to July 2017, Breaux exploited his position at the federally insured credit union to siphon funds undetected. Documents filed in federal court reveal the thefts occurred across multiple branches where he held authority — Harahan, Westwego, and the uptown New Orleans location. ASI’s deposits are insured by the National Credit Union Association, making the crime a federal offense.

Breaux had been with ASI since 2011, rising through the ranks before being named Branch Manager of the Westwego location in 2014. In February 2017, he was transferred to the uptown branch, where he continued in a managerial role until resigning in July of that year — shortly after the thefts ceased.

The breach of trust cuts deep in a system built on financial accountability. As a manager, Breaux had access to accounts, internal controls, and oversight responsibilities — powers he weaponized to line his own pockets. The FBI led the investigation, uncovering a paper trail that linked Breaux directly to the missing $35,000.

Now facing the consequences, Breaux risks up to ten years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for August 14, 2019, before U.S. District Court Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle.

U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser credited the FBI’s thorough probe and lauded the work of Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba, Supervisor of the Financial Crimes Unit, who is handling the prosecution. The case underscores the federal crackdown on insider theft within financial institutions.
