Scott Douglas Born, Sexual Abuse of a Ward, West Virginia 2021

A disturbing case of corruption within the correctional system has come to light as Scott Douglas Born, a former correctional officer at Federal Correctional Institution Hazelton’s Female Facility, was sentenced to three months of incarceration for the sexual abuse of an inmate.

According to a source, Born, 33, of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, pled guilty in February 2021 to one count of “Sexual Abuse of a Ward.” Born admitted to accepting oral sex from an inmate at the secure female facility from September 2018 to January 2019.

The crime was discovered through an investigation conducted by the Office of Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Flower on behalf of the government.

U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case. Born’s sentence of three months of incarceration brings a sense of closure to the victim and serves as a reminder that those in positions of authority will be held accountable for their actions.
