Washington – Sean Charles Dunn, 37, a former Department of Justice employee, faces serious charges after an alleged assault on a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer, including verbal abuse and the act of throwing a sandwich at the officer, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Dunn was terminated today by Attorney General Pam Bondi, who emphasized the severity of his actions in a post on social media platform X: “If you touch any law enforcement officer, we will come after you. This defendant worked at the Department of Justice – NO LONGER. He has been charged with a felony.”
Attorney General Bondi continued to say that Dunn’s actions were an example of the Deep State they had been up against for seven months as they worked to refocus the DOJ. “You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement,” she wrote.
U.S. Attorney Pirro echoed these sentiments, stating, “Let me be clear, if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, we will come after you with the full weight of the law. This alleged assault is no joke – it’s a serious crime.”
The incident took place on Sunday, Aug. 10, at around 11 p.m., when Metro Transit Police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection were patrolling on the 2000 block of 14th Street NW. Dunn allegedly approached a CPB officer, pointing his finger in the officer’s face and shouting abusive remarks.
About 11:06 p.m., Dunn forcefully threw a sandwich at the officer, striking him in the chest. A video captured by an observer on Instagram shows the incident. After attempting to flee, Dunn was apprehended and told an officer, “I did it. I threw a sandwich.” The case is currently being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
