Defendants Face Federal Charges for Illicit Border Crossing
Concord, NH – In a recent case, two Turkish nationals have been arrested and charged with illegally entering the United States near Hall Stream in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Serif Alihan, 33, and Mustafa Kaya, 32, were taken into custody by a Beecher Falls Border Patrol Agent on February 26, 2025. The agent encountered the men near Hall Stream, a river that runs along the border between Pittsburg and Canada. Both men were covered in snow and their clothes were wet, with knee-deep snow in the area.
As per the charging documents, the Border Patrol Agent followed the men’s footprints back to Hall Stream and found that they ended at the New Hampshire side of the stream, only to resume on the Canadian side. This indicates that the men had crossed the border illegally.
The investigation was led by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Hunter handling the prosecution. The details contained in the charging documents are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
A federal court hearing is scheduled for the defendants later today. The outcome of this case and the subsequent trial will depend on the evidence presented and the testimony of the defendants.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of border security and the consequences of attempting to enter the country illegally.
