Louis K. West III, a registered sex offender, was caught in a multi-agency sting operation on March 26, 2026, for attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex in New York. West, who has a history of sexual violence, was taken into federal custody on March 27, 2026, and presented before U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith C. McCarthy in White Plains federal court. He was detained pending further proceedings.
According to the complaint, West communicated online with an individual he believed to be a minor female and arranged to meet her for sex. However, the person he was communicating with was actually an undercover law enforcement officer. West negotiated the details of the sexual encounter and agreed on a meeting place, where he was subsequently intercepted by authorities.
The FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York are urging anyone with information about similar cases to come forward. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton emphasized that sexual exploitation of children is a horrific crime that will not be tolerated in New York. The FBI is partnering with state and local law enforcement to target sexual predators and protect vulnerable children.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and reporting suspicious activity to the authorities. The FBI can be reached at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or through their online tips page at https://tips.fbi.gov.
