Tavaris Andre Donaldson, a 30-year-old convicted sex offender from Georgia, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender in Madison County, Florida. Donaldson was required to register after being convicted of child molestation in Lowndes County, Georgia in 2014. He absconded from Georgia in October 2024 and moved to Madison County, Florida, where he began working in early 2025 without reporting his employment or residence as required by law.
Donaldson’s failure to register was discovered during a joint investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Justin M. Keen as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sex crimes.
U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin stated that convicted sex offenders like Donaldson are legally required to register with local authorities when they move to a new location, and that his office will ensure those registration requirements are strictly enforced. After serving his term of imprisonment, Donaldson will have to serve eight years of supervised release.
The U.S. Marshals Service played a key role in the investigation and arrest of Donaldson, with Acting U.S. Marshal Greg Leljedal emphasizing the importance of protecting the nation’s children from sex offenders who fail to register.
