NEBRASKA MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR METH ON AMTRAK
Omaha, NE – Shawron Thomas, 47, of Calumet City, Illinois, was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
This sentencing comes after a Nebraska State Patrol trooper encountered Thomas on the Amtrak train in Omaha on January 16, 2021. The trooper noticed signs of possible drug trafficking and engaged Thomas in conversation.
Thomas consented to a search by a drug detection canine, which alerted to a suitcase containing seven bundles of methamphetamine weighing a total of 5,049 grams. Testing revealed one bundle weighing 467 grams was 100 percent pure.
Thomas will begin a five-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
This case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
