LOUISVILLE, KY – A federal jury delivered a damning verdict on June 27, 2025, convicting two Shelbyville men of flooding the streets with deadly fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine. Benjamin Quintero Martinez, 31, and Rodolfo Reyes Martinez, 27, were found guilty on multiple counts, including drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession. The bust reveals a brazen operation fueled by profit and disregard for human life.
The case, spearheaded by U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner of the Western District of Kentucky, along with the ATF, U.S. Marshals, and Louisville Metro Police, uncovered a significant drug pipeline. Evidence presented at the five-day trial showed that on December 15, 2022, the pair possessed with intent to distribute over 1 kilogram of fentanyl – enough to kill countless individuals – alongside more than 200 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine. They weren’t just dealing; they were manufacturing, utilizing a pill press to churn out illicit fentanyl pills. Adding insult to injury, authorities discovered seven firearms linked to the drug operation.
This wasn’t a first offense for either man. Quintero Martinez’s rap sheet is extensive, including convictions in Shelby and Henry Circuit Courts for various drug trafficking charges dating back to 2014. He’s also been convicted of possessing firearms as a convicted felon—multiple times. In fact, his 2017 Shelby Circuit Court conviction included trafficking in a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm. Reyes Martinez also has a criminal history, with convictions for complicity to escape in Marshall Circuit Court (2019) and, critically, for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm in Shelby Circuit Court just months before the December 2022 drug seizure.
The evidence paints a clear picture: a pair of repeat offenders actively engaged in a dangerous criminal enterprise. The defendants aided and abetted each other, building a network to maximize profits while knowingly endangering the community. The seven firearms weren’t for protection; they were tools of the trade, meant to intimidate and ensure the smooth operation of their illicit business. The operation was part of a larger initiative, “Operation Take Back America,” aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
Both men are scheduled for sentencing on September 25, 2025, before a United States District Judge. Quintero Martinez faces a mandatory minimum of 20 years behind bars, while Reyes Martinez is looking at a minimum of 15 years. However, both could receive life sentences, with the final decision resting with the judge after considering sentencing guidelines. One thing is certain: there is no parole in the federal system. These men will serve hard time for their crimes.
