A 31-year-old Colbert man has been sentenced to 210 months in prison after confessing to the sexually abusing a minor in his care.
The crime occurred in Bryan County, within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charges arose from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
On May 10, 2023, Sidney Dewayne Woods pleaded guilty to one count of Abusive Sexual Contact in Indian Country.
According to investigators, Woods confessed to the crime, which involved a minor who was in his care at the time of the abuse.
Woods was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
The Honorable Keith Starrett, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, presided over the hearing in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Assistant United States Attorney Morgan Muzljakovich represented the United States in the case.
Woods will serve a total of 17.5 years in prison for the crime.
