Buffalo Man Charged with Possession of Child Pornography

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Jason Zaifert, a 33-year-old Buffalo man, has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography, a federal crime that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

According to U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., Zaifert was taken into custody following a search warrant executed at his residence by law enforcement officers. The search revealed various electronic items, including a computer that contained images of child pornography.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti, who is handling the case, stated that the arrest is the result of an ongoing investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of James C. Spero, Special Agent in Charge.

Zaifert made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and is being detained pending further proceedings.

The fact that Zaifert has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The case against Zaifert will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Grisanti, who noted that the investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as they become available.

The arrest and charge against Zaifert serve as a reminder that the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography are serious federal crimes that will be vigorously prosecuted.
