Sioux City Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of a Minor
A Sioux City man has been sentenced to 54 months in prison for the sexual abuse of a minor on the Omaha Nation Indian Reservation. Marquel Grant, 20, was sentenced to five years of supervised release after his release from prison, with no parole available in the federal system.
As a result of this conviction, Grant will be required to register as a sex offender. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
According to court documents, on November 15, 2018, Grant interacted with the minor via SnapChat. The two then met up in Walthill, Nebraska, and walked to an abandoned residence. Outside of the residence, Grant pinned the minor to the ground, unbuckled her pants, and pulled her pants and underwear down to her ankles.
Grant then attempted sexual intercourse with the minor, who said no and tried pushing him away. The minor was eventually able to force Grant away, ending the assault.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Omaha Nation Law Enforcement Services. United States Attorney Joe Kelly announced the sentencing, which was handed down by United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher.
