Sioux Falls Man Sentenced to 72 Months for Bank Robbery

A brazen bank robbery that left employees shaken has landed a Sioux Falls man behind bars for 72 months. Cody Maynard, 27, was sentenced on July 31, 2018, to 72 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for his role in the April 27, 2017, robbery of Voyage Federal Credit Union.

According to court documents, Maynard used force, violence, and intimidation to steal $3,600 from the bank. The defendant, wearing brass knuckles, threatened to use a gun and a knife during the heist, leaving the employees fearing for their lives.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sioux Falls Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri leading the prosecution. Maynard was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service immediately after the sentencing.

The bank, whose deposits were federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration, suffered a significant loss. Maynard was ordered to pay $4,215.36 in restitution and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The sentence sends a clear message to would-be bank robbers: the consequences are severe and the risk is not worth it. As our community continues to grow and prosper, it’s essential that we maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone.

With this conviction, we’re one step closer to making our streets safer for everyone. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
