The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a civil denaturalization complaint against Gurdev Singh Sohal, alias Dev Singh and Boota Singh Sundu, who fraudulently obtained U.S. citizenship in 2005 despite being ordered deported in 1994.
Sohal used a different identity to naturalize under the name Gurdev Sohal, hiding his prior immigration history. An expert analysis confirmed that fingerprints from both identities matched after digitization efforts by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate emphasized that such deception would not be tolerated.
The DOJ complaint claims Sohal procured citizenship illegally and without lawful admission, failing to demonstrate good moral character. The case marks the ninth denaturalization action since Jan. 20, part of a wider investigation under the Historic Fingerprint Enrollment project.
This relentless pursuit of immigration fraud is being led by the Justice Department’s Office of Immigration Litigation, with support from USCIS and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington.
The DOJ’s aggressive stance against such deception underscores the government’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its immigration system.
