BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The grim tale of Jorge Huerta-Garcia, a 31-year-old Mexican citizen, unfolds as he stands sentenced to serve 17 years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking organization. His illegal reentry after removal, conspiracy to possess over five kilograms of cocaine, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person have marred his path.
Huerta-Garcia, who pleaded guilty to the immigration and drug/firearms crimes in August 2024 and March 2025 respectively, is now facing the brunt of justice. U.S. District Judge Rolando Olvera ordered him to serve 204 months, a sentence that includes his serious prior convictions of an aggravated assault and firearm possession.
The court heard evidence attributing 643 kilos of cocaine to Huerta-Garcia, a figure that underscores the scale of the drug conspiracy he was part of. The investigation into this operation revealed a network that authorities have been tirelessly targeting as part of Operation Take Back America.
Law enforcement stumbled upon Huerta-Garcia when they attempted to stop his Chevrolet Silverado truck in Hidalgo County, leading to a high-speed chase and subsequent crash. He fled, but authorities captured the passenger, Alvino Lozoya-Ramon, and discovered 39.46 kilograms of cocaine in the vehicle. Huerta-Garcia had been previously convicted and removed from the United States in 2022.
Lozoya-Ramon and Juan Alberto Monroy-Villanueva, both Mexican citizens, pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to deliver cocaine and were sentenced accordingly. The Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces played a crucial role in this investigation, alongside Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations and the DEA.
Huerta-Garcia will remain in custody as he awaits transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility. His sentence serves as a stark reminder of the efforts being made to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking across the nation.
