Juan Soto-Lopez and Carlos Rodriguez-Mata, Alien Smuggling, California 2024

SAN ANTONIO – A shocking incident involving the transport of illegal aliens took place in El Paso, Texas, as federal prosecutors revealed the filing of 270 new immigration and immigration-related criminal cases for the week ending September 11.

Among these cases, a harrowing crash on September 4 saw Carlos Misael Soto-Lopez, charged with transporting illegal aliens. The suspect lost control of his vehicle at high speed, causing it to roll multiple times. Seven individuals were observed fleeing from the scene, all apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents.

U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas announced that Soto-Lopez and Axel Arturo Rodriguez-Mata face charges for transporting illegal aliens. This comes as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggles with immigration enforcement in the region.

In another significant development, Francisco Javier Mercado-Carrillo was charged with attempting to evade immigration laws by appearing under an assumed name at the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry. The Mexican national, who has been previously removed from the U.S. three times, is also facing charges related to a counterfeit Texas Identification Card.

Jose Armando Rodriguez-Rincon, another Mexican national, was charged with illegal re-entry after being most recently removed on August 15, following his third DWI conviction. This case highlights the intersection of immigration and drunk driving laws.

San Antonio also saw Jose Luis Giron-Zepeda taken into ICE custody for entering the country illegally, a repeat offender with a prior conviction for transportation of illegal aliens. Juan Leonardo Tovar-Ramirez was convicted for his third DWI in Austin, while Luis Garcia-Rincon faced charges for indecent assault and unlawful restraint.
