Andrew Tate, Meth Trafficking, California 2022

LOS ANGELES – In a gritty sentencing that sends shockwaves through South L.A., Andrew Tate, the notorious gang member known as ‘Batman,’ was handed a 144-month federal prison term for orchestrating a massive meth and cocaine trafficking ring. Operated from his storefront, the operation flooded the streets with narcotics, including crack cocaine and methamphetamine.

Tate, 56, entered his guilty plea in August 2022, marking the culmination of an investigation dubbed ‘Operation Hoover Dam.’ His arrest in November 2020 put him behind bars where he remained until today’s sentencing before Judge Stanley Blumenfeld Jr.

The gang boss was the lead defendant in a sweeping indictment targeting the Hoover Criminals Gang. His co-defendant, Bobby Lorenzo Reed, also known as ‘Zo’ and ‘Z,’ received a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to federal narcotics charges in June 2022. Reed owned H&E Smoke and Snack Shop, which served as another hub for the drug trade.

Prosecutors laid bare the scale of Tate’s operation, noting that he was at the helm of an extensive drug conspiracy. ‘Tate’s role in the drug conspiracy was significant; he was the head of the entire drug trafficking enterprise pumping drugs into a vulnerable area of Los Angeles,’ they argued.

The investigation and subsequent arrests were a collaborative effort by the FBI, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Assistant United States Attorneys Jenna G. Williams and Jason C. Pang prosecuted the case with relentless determination.

This sentence is a stark reminder of the government’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking operations that prey on communities. The grimy streets of South L.A. now face a darker chapter, as the gang boss behind one of its most violent rings begins his long overdue punishment.
