SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Victor Manuel Sanchez-Chacon, aka “Speedy,” 31, of Mexico, is facing a litany of federal charges in Utah, including the horrific offense of sex trafficking a minor. A federal grand jury returned the indictment, detailing allegations of exploitation, drug distribution, and illegal firearm possession. Sanchez-Chacon, residing in Taylorsville, Utah, remains detained following a court order.
The indictment lays out a disturbing pattern of behavior. Between August 27, 2023, and September 1, 2023, Sanchez-Chacon allegedly coerced a minor into engaging in sexually explicit acts for the purpose of creating child sexual abuse material. Further allegations state that beginning October 25, 2023, Sanchez-Chacon recruited and enticed another minor into commercial sexual activity. The details are sickening and underscore the depravity of the alleged crimes.
This wasn’t a standalone case of abuse, however. Detectives with the South Valley Special Enforcement Team (SET) initiated an investigation in August 2024, uncovering a narcotics trafficking operation targeting juveniles in the Salt Lake Valley. Sanchez-Chacon quickly surfaced as a key player. A traffic stop on May 15, 2025, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and SET task force officers, yielded drugs and other evidence. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered three firearms, ammunition, and body armor, painting a picture of a dangerous individual well-equipped for criminal activity.
Adding another layer to the case, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) check revealed Sanchez-Chacon is an undocumented Mexican national who entered the United States at an unknown time. He faces charges of possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute, unlawful alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a firearm during drug trafficking, production of child pornography, and the most heinous charge: sex trafficking of a minor. This case highlights the intersection of multiple criminal enterprises and the dangers posed by those operating outside the law.
Sanchez-Chacon’s initial appearance on the indictment is scheduled for July 21, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 8.4 of the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse. Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti announced the charges, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations. The investigation is a joint effort between the South Valley Special Enforcement Team, Taylorsville and Draper City Police Departments, Homeland Security Investigations, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
This case falls under both Operation Take Back America – a nationwide push to dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations – and Project Safe Childhood, a dedicated initiative to combat child sexual exploitation. Assistant United States Attorney Carol A. Dain is prosecuting the case. It is crucial to remember that an indictment is simply an allegation, and Sanchez-Chacon is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. But the evidence presented so far suggests a calculated and dangerous criminal who preyed on the vulnerable.
