POCATELLO – Paul Allen, 61, of St. Anthony, Idaho, has been indicted on three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, a crime that can carry a hefty penalty.
Allen, a resident of St. Anthony, was indicted January 24, 2017, by a federal grand jury in Pocatello. The charges stem from allegations that he distributed Tramadol, a Schedule IV controlled substance, without lawful authorization on three separate occasions.
According to the indictment, the alleged crimes took place on March 12, 2016, March 19, 2016, and April 2, 2016. If convicted, Allen could face up to 20 years in prison, a maximum fine of $1,000,000, and at least three years of supervised release. The government is also seeking forfeiture of the proceeds involved in the offense.
The investigation into Allen’s activities was conducted by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case has now been presented to a grand jury, which has seen fit to indict the defendant.
An indictment is a formal accusation of a crime, but it is not evidence of guilt. It is up to the court to determine whether Paul Allen is actually guilty of the crimes with which he has been charged.
Allen is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. If convicted, he will face the full weight of the law.
The case against Allen is a stark reminder of the dangers of illicit substances and the importance of law enforcement in keeping our communities safe.
