Ernest Leander Shaw, Child Pornography Possession, Georgia 2023

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Ernest Leander Shaw, a 66-year-old former substitute teacher, has been sentenced for possession of child pornography.

Shaw taught at various schools throughout Jackson County before being caught with hundreds of images and videos of child pornography on his electronic devices.

According to U.S. Attorney Byung J. ‘BJay’ Pak, the charges and other information presented in court, Shaw admitted to possessing the images during a subsequent interview with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office received information in May 2018 that Shaw possessed an electronic device containing child pornography. Following a search of his residence, telephones, and other electronic devices, hundreds of images and videos of child pornography were found.

‘Child pornography is abuse of society’s most vulnerable population—young children,’ said U.S. Attorney Pak. ‘Children trust that adults and those in leadership positions will be their protector. Shaw chose to betray that trust.’

‘There is no sentence that can ever make the victims of child pornography whole again,’ said Chris Hacker, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta. ‘It is even more disheartening when a person entrusted to protect children, our most vulnerable citizens, is the person who promotes this abuse.’

Ernest Leander Shaw was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release, with the first two years to be served on home confinement.

This case is being brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
