Sami C. Horner, Unlawful Possession of a Destructive Device, Washington 2020

Grimey Times exclusive: A 19-year-old Tacoma man has been charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington for his role in a Capitol Hill protest that descended into violence. SAMI C. HORNER, 19, is facing federal charges for unlawful possession of a destructive device.

According to authorities, on August 26th, 2020, HORNER was spotted in Volunteer Park at the initial assembly of protesters. As they marched towards 15th Avenue East, law enforcement officers observed him smashing windows at a bank branch. A swift pursuit and arrest ensued.

In the aftermath of the arrest, officers discovered a glass bottle containing a wick soaked in flammable material within HORNER’s backpack. The contraption, commonly known as a Molotov Cocktail, is classified under federal law as an incendiary device. Accompanying the bottle were two lighters, protective gear including a helmet and filter mask, and a walkie-talkie.

HORNER’s actions could lead to a prison sentence of up to ten years and a fine of $250,000 if convicted. The case is currently under investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) and the Seattle Police Department.

Despite the serious charges against him, HORNER maintains his innocence until proven guilty in court. Assistant United States Attorney Thomas Woods will be handling the prosecution of this case.

The incident underscores the potential dangers present at large-scale protests and the rigorous action taken by federal authorities to maintain public safety and uphold the law.
