Takoma Park Man Sentenced to Over 22 Years for Drug and Gun Crimes

Greenbelt, MD – A 37-year-old Takoma Park man has been sentenced to over 22 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances and gun charges.

Corey Moore, 37, of Takoma Park, Maryland, was sentenced to 271 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and phencyclidine (PCP); possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime; and being a felon in possession of guns and ammunition.

According to evidence presented at Moore’s one-week bench trial, on September 25, 2010, Moore possessed with intent to distribute powder cocaine, which was recovered by Takoma Park police after a chase. In addition, on September 27, 2010, police executed a search warrant at Moore’s residence and seized one kilogram or more of PCP, which Moore intended to distribute, as well as a .44 caliber, semi-automatic pistol, a .38 caliber revolver, and six rounds of .38 caliber ammunition.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein praised the ATF, the Takoma Park Police Department, Montgomery County Police Department, and the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in the investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Steven E. Swaney and Mara Zusman Greenberg, who prosecuted the case.

“Corey Moore will no longer sell drugs and foment violence on the streets of Maryland and D.C.,” said U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein.

The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Steven L. Gerido of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Baltimore Field Division; Chief Alan Goldberg of the Takoma Park Police Department; Chief J. Thomas Manger of the Montgomery County Police Department; and Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy.

This case is the result of a joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Baltimore Field Division, the Takoma Park Police Department, the Montgomery County Police Department, and the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
