TAMPA, FL – Torrey Taylor, a 44-year-old resident of Tampa, is staring down a potential life sentence after admitting today to federal drug charges. Taylor pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and distribution of both cocaine and a significant quantity of methamphetamine – 50 grams or more – according to United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.
The feds say Taylor wasn’t working alone. Court records detail a conspiracy with co-defendant Temeko Evans to peddle poison on the streets of Tampa. Between February 11 and March 26, 2025, detectives with the Tampa Police Department weren’t buying what Taylor and Evans were selling…they were buying from them. A series of controlled purchases netted approximately two ounces of crack cocaine and two ounces of methamphetamine, directly linking the pair to the drug trade.
This wasn’t a small-time operation. The quantity of methamphetamine alone triggers a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. However, Taylor’s fate isn’t sealed yet – he could face life behind bars. A sentencing date remains to be set, leaving Taylor in legal limbo as he awaits his punishment.
Evans, Taylor’s alleged partner in crime, hasn’t copped a plea. His case is currently pending and scheduled for trial in the October 2025 term. If convicted, Evans will face similar, severe penalties. The DEA and Tampa PD conducted the investigation, demonstrating a coordinated effort to dismantle this drug operation.
Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang is prosecuting the case, tasked with securing a conviction and appropriate sentence. It’s a grim reminder that the federal government is actively targeting drug distribution networks, even at the street level. The streets of Tampa are a little cleaner today, but at a steep cost to Taylor’s future.
It’s important to remember, an indictment is just an accusation. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
