Ryan S. Schroeder, Child Pornography Production, Wisconsin 2023

⏱ 2 min read

Ryan S. Schroeder, a 39-year-old former teacher and track coach at Mishicot Middle/High School in Wisconsin, was sentenced to 336 months in prison for producing child pornography. Schroeder’s crimes involved the sexual assault of two minor students, one of whom was just 13 years old, over a period of approximately two years. The abuse began when one of the victims was in the eighth grade. Schroeder’s dual role as a teacher and coach gave him extended access to his victims, exacerbating his abuse of trust.

Schroeder pled guilty to creating a video involving one of the minors, which contained sexually explicit conduct with the child. The discovery of this video was made after law enforcement searched Schroeder’s cell phone, where they found images sent to both of the minors. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

United States District Judge Byron B. Conway condemned Schroeder’s actions as a serious criminal offense that involved ‘so much more than the production of child pornography.’ Judge Conway described Schroeder as a ‘family man who was living a fraud’ and a ‘mentor who became a predator.’ The sentence of 28 years in prison reflects the severity of Schroeder’s crimes and the significant breach of trust he committed as an educator and coach.

Following his release from prison, Schroeder will be required to spend the remainder of his life on supervised release and register as a sex offender under state and federal law. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad Schimel stated that Schroeder ‘deserved the very lengthy prison sentence he received’ for stealing the innocence of the children and abusing the position of trust given to him by the school, parents, and society.
