A 64-year-old Wood County man, Dennis McCullough, has been charged with possessing child pornography, while a 48-year-old Minnesota man, Daniel Baity, faces methamphetamine trafficking charges in federal court. The charges stem from separate investigations conducted by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, West Central Drug Task Force, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, and DEA. McCullough allegedly possessed a cell phone with child pornography on October 12, 2025, and Baity is accused of possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine intended for distribution on February 3, 2026.
The investigations were part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse, and the U.S. Department of Justice’s efforts to crack down on methamphetamine trafficking. If convicted, McCullough faces up to 20 years in prison, while Baity could receive a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of 40 years behind bars.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Julie Pfluger and Megan Stelljes are handling the cases. The indictments were returned by a federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin on May 13, 2026.
The charges against McCullough and Baity are a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to protect children from exploitation and to disrupt the flow of illicit drugs into communities. Both cases highlight the importance of collaboration between local, state, and federal agencies in combating these serious crimes.
