Alejandra Sanchez-Cuaquehua, a 32-year-old Mexican citizen, was arrested in Barron County, Wisconsin, on April 2, 2026, for illegally reentering the United States. Sanchez-Cuaquehua is wanted in Mexico for a July 2025 homicide and had been living and working in Richland, Wisconsin. The FBI received a report about her presence in the US and coordinated with Mexican authorities to confirm her identity and status as a fugitive. Sanchez-Cuaquehua had previously been removed from the US and did not have permission to return.
Following her arrest, Sanchez-Cuaquehua made her initial appearance in federal court in Madison on the illegal reentry charge. She was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and will be returned to Mexico to face her murder charges.
The arrest was the result of a collaborative investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Mexican authorities, including the Secreteria de Seguridad y Proteccion, Interpol, and the Fiscalia General Estado de Veracruz, as well as the Barron County Sheriff’s Office.
Sanchez-Cuaquehua’s case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to track down and apprehend fugitives who attempt to evade justice by crossing international borders.
