A former Iowa man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for child sex exploitation.
Terrance Sullivan, 63, of Waterloo, was sentenced to 346 months in federal prison after admitting to taking photographs of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in September 2019.
According to court documents, Sullivan ‘systematically groomed’ the child to obtain her trust for his own sexual gratification. He locked the door behind him to orchestrate taking the photographs, which he admitted he knew he should not be doing but thought it was fun.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Elizabeth Dupuich and investigated by the Waterloo Police Department.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Sullivan was also fined $100 and assessed $5,000 in additional assessments. He must serve a five-year term of supervised release after his prison term.
The case file number is 20-CR-2021. Sullivan is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
