BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In a shocking turn of events, convicted felon Terry Roshaun Pruitt has been indicted on a drug charge, announced U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge Brad L. Byerley.

A one-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges Pruitt with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine base, a serious offense that carries a stiff sentence. According to the indictment, in September 2021, Pruitt possessed 280 grams or more of a mixture containing a detectable amount of cocaine base, more commonly referred to as “crack cocaine” in Jefferson County.

This is not Pruitt’s first run-in with the law. He has one serious drug felony conviction and one serious violent felony conviction, which increases his sentence to 25 years to life in prison. In March 2009, Pruitt was convicted in the U.S. District Court Northern District of Alabama of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing cocaine base and possession of a firearm in the furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The DEA investigated the case, along with the Birmingham Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Baty is prosecuting the case.
