James Lawhorn, a 54-year-old Wasilla, Alaska man, has been charged with making threats to kill a Michigan mayor. Between September 18 and 23, 2025, Lawhorn allegedly sent over 20 threatening messages to the mayor, including violent rhetoric and threats of assassination. The messages were sent via Facebook, a city website, and by telephone.
The threatening messages included statements such as “We must get this scum out of our country now. Put a bullet in this mf’s head now” and “This mayor needs to be killed now…. Hang him and all his family now.” Lawhorn’s actions have resulted in him being charged with seven counts of making threats in interstate commerce and one count of stalking.
Lawhorn made his initial court appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew M. Scoble of the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska.
