Three Charged in Oxycodone Conspiracy
A brazen crime network in Western Pennsylvania has been taken down, with three suspects facing charges in a plot to distribute controlled substances. According to federal officials, William Richardson, 55, and Nicole Miller, 29, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Kavon Dawkins, 23, of Clinton Township, Michigan, have been indicted on a single count of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and oxymorphone, also known as ‘Opana,’ schedule II controlled substances.
Between March and May of 2016, Richardson, Miller and Dawkins allegedly conspired to possess with the intent to distribute and to distribute quantities of the highly addictive prescription painkillers. The indictment, unsealed in federal court, highlights a disturbing trend in the region.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of up to 30 years in prison, a fine of up to $2,000,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendants.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. This prosecution is the result of a federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the New Castle Police Department and the Allegheny County Police Department.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The suspects are expected to face justice for their alleged crimes.
The investigation highlights a disturbing trend in the region, with the distribution of prescription painkillers continuing to plague communities. In response, federal officials have promised to crack down on those responsible, bringing them to justice and ensuring the public is safe from these deadly substances.
The suspects are expected to appear in federal court to face the charges. As the investigation continues, officials are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the prosecution of this case.
